The City's gone to pot, the champagne swilling suited and booted ones have screwed us over. The fat cats are lapping at their capitalist cream and Westminster wants to cut arts funding and siphon off our hard-earned dosh. My point? London has been bad. Very, very bad...The fetish scene in London is nowhere near as evolved as Amsterdam or Berlin, but for the past few years the alternative delectations of our inhabitants have leapt from the newsagent's top shelf and into, if not the mainstream, then certainly the border towns of Acceptable. What marvellous news!
You don't need a wardrobe full of rubber to get involved. All of London has embraced it's many festishes. Scenes like the last days of Rome have been springing up all over the capital - far from grubby, slightly awkward and costly encounters, these are more like a great big fancy dress party. Let's face it, fetishists have long been kept in a kind of Freudian box labelled 'Don't ask', and where there is stigma, there is exclusion, solemnity and shame. But this is erotica at its most playful. This is sexual evolution. The back-alley dominatrix of yesteryear now has a friendly smile and a plush London address. Sin is the new black. Black, like a well oiled riding crop...
Festival of Sins: Bimonthly themed club nights (the next one is Wrath!) Cabaret, alternative fashion shows and fetish dance troupes combine with towers of chocolates, and a dancefloor featuring glam rock and electro. the Festival has also played host to Japanese erotic performers in the past. The clientele are young professionals and mature students, and everyone makes a HUGE effort dressing up! This is more of a fetish-themed club night than an actual fetish club, but is the perfect way to indulge your wicked side if you're a newbie! Den & Centro, 9th October!
Club AntiChrist: "Go there to be and discover your scary side" was the advice given to me by a recent attendee at the club dubbed, 'Industrial Fetish Gothic Mayhem'. There's really nothing I can say that will describe the awesome power and popularity of this clubnight in Vauxhall, who's recent themes have included SteamPunk and Myths, Legends and Folklore - many a Bacchanalian fantasy reaslised on THAT night I reckon! Visit http://www.clubantichrist.com/ for tickets to the Halloween Party on October 29th!!
Torture Garden: The self proclaimed world's leading fetish club definitely doesn't disappoint. They've been around for years, and their highlight is ALWAYS the London Fetish Ball. Rest assured that the hardcore aspects of Torture Garden in no way detract from the fun - to my mind this club has one of the best, most interesting clientele in London. Themed fantasy rooms, latex fashion showcases, Couples Playroom and a really strong continental European vibe - Berlin Steampunk and Moulin Rouge are a couple of examples. 2nd October @ St Mathews, Brixton Hill.
