La Vie's Guide to Eating Out....Vol.1

...ssssh filthy people! Get your minds out of the gutter! I refer of course to La Vie's deiniftive guide to the best (affordable) restaurants in London, beginning, like the rising sun, in the East...poetic right?

Open Kitchen, Hoxton Street: This is a training restaurant, part of Hackney Community College. Really lovely restaurant and very friendly service. The food is superb. The only way you know it's a training restaurant is by the very reasonable prices on the menu!

Hanoi Cafe, Kingsland Rd: Quirky little Vietnamese place, if it's not a cuisine you're familiar with then do something about it, it's yum...

Olives & Figs, Spitalfields: The food here is spectacularly good. The menu is basic but includes all the usual Mediterranean favourites such as tabouleh, humus, falafel, etc. The restaurant is small but friendly, very well decorated and the toilets are well appointed and look smart. The service is also really attentive. The only downside is that you have to bring your own alcohol so it's well worth popping to the Tesco at Liverpool St before you go!
